Summary/Overview:

'Making Sense of Citizenship' is a new Citizenship CPD handbook from the Citizenship Foundation in association with the DfES, QCA, LSDA, Citized, ACT and Ofsted. The handbook is aimed at anyone involved in teaching, leading or promoting citizenship education to young people, whether in the formal or informal education sector.

It gives ‘advice on alternative methods of delivery, teaching and learning strategies, assessment and reporting, and management and review’. The document covers topics such as ‘What is Citizenship’, ‘Citizenship in Nursery & Primary Schools’ and ‘Citizenship in Secondary Schools’ and is written in an accessible way with clear design. The advice given is on a relatively general and basic level so it may be less useful for experienced practitioners.

The full document in hard copy costs £25 but the Citizenship Foundation has made a select number of chapters available free of charge on their website.
