This document looks at public policy making in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and how public participation can be useful in this. The document comprises of two main parts; the first is an analytical review which introduces the topic and goes on to review and examine existing measures to inform, consult and engage citizens; it then suggests key factors for success and outlines some guiding principles. The second section provides interesting, in-depth case studies, featuring examples of initiatives that have been used to strengthen government-citizen relations in nine of the OECD Member countries.
