Summary/Overview:

“Who’s your neighbour?” is a website that allows neighbours to connect with one another- it has three main aims: to allow every person in their area to be able to find out what is going on around them and be able to contribute to this important information using the online notice board and forums.
Secondly, the site aims to “bring people together in their own areas based around activities, odd jobs, car sharing or lifestyles”, and also to “create a trusted community of members in each area”, which will allow people to pass on their local experience and knowledge, allowing others to tap into that information. The site is primarily aimed at households and families although it does offer a ‘word of mouth’ self-advertising option for those working from home.

The site allows you to set up your own local groups, sell items, set up mini-surveys, send messages online, and to find others with common interests who live in the area . The main downside of this clearly designed site is that it is fairly new and has not quite reached the number of users to be a self-sustaining online community.

There are currently some signs of activity from users who have logged on across the UK so it will be interesting to see how the site develops in the longer term. The option for users to provide feedback on its development is an encouraging feature of the site.
